New to our website is Hippo's Original Swing Arm Rigs.
Four years ago, Captain Don Franklin of the six pack Soleman
asked Hippo, our rigging expert, if he could design a sturgeon rig
that had two separated hooks that were tied to a single leader.
It was his observation that single hook leaders had a higher hook
up potential while traditional two hook rigs (where both hooks were
strung together on the same end loop) attracted more bites
(although the hook up rate was lower than when using a single hook).
After some preliminary designs, Hippo came up with the first prototype
for the rig and tied a half dozen rigs for Captain Don to test out. On its
first day of use, Captain Don called Hippo from the water and enthused,
"This is it! This is really working!"
Spurred on by its initial success, Captain Don and Hippo got together
to fine tune the leader. The swing arms were lengthened slightly and the
sliding egg sinker was added to help keep the bait down and stabilize it.
The final result is Hippo's Original Swing Arm Sturgeon Rig, what we
and numerous customers have called "the best sturgeon leader you can tie
on your line!"
Many customers have claimed that they have never had as many hook ups
with any other rigs. This fulfills Captain Don's original vision of having a rig
that attracted the bites like a traditional two hook rig but had the hooking
power of a single hook rig. In addition, approximately 60% of our customers
reported that because of the swing arms, the second hook would swing
around and second hook the fish, giving it the nickname "the death rig".
Available in five colors (original red, ghost, green, camo, and yellow) and
in four sizes (5/0, 6/0, 7/0, and 8/0) there is a leader available for whatever
bait you plan to use for sturgeon.
