"Back in the day", there were two basic classes of manufactured worms; the mass injected worm, popularized by Nick Creme and the original Creme worm, and the hand poured worm produced by various garage industries in the West.   While the injected worms caught their share of bass, tournament after tournament was being won by those anglers throwing the hand poured worm. 

The hand poured worm is a thing of beauty, with (depending on its color pattern) its blended fades, contrasting bellies, splotches, and flakes. The problem with the hand pours, however, was their availability.  As mentioned before, most of these worms were a product of a garage industry.  For many of these entrepreneurs, it was a side job for their real 9 to 5 endeavors.  Worms were produced only on weekends or whenever there was some free time to do so.  This was not a good situation for those depending on a certain worm for a win in a tournament!

Then, in 1989, in the pretty little town of Newbury Park in California, Harvey and Greg Stump, under the name of "GJ+H Company", developed a robotic machine that was able to make hand poured styled worms with remarkable precision and consistency of color.  With computer controlled accuracy, soft plastic is layered into CNC cut aluminum molds.  The result is a worm color pattern that looks the same today, tomorrow, and even five years down the road.
