Shimano Rods FAQ

How Do I Repair My Shimano Rod?
Shimano does not repair rods nor do they stock rod components for sale to the general public. If your rod is broken during the warranty period under normal fishing conditions or due to non-conforming materials or workmanship, Shimano will replace the rod.  This is not to say you can't repair rods through a private rod repair specialist using alternative components though this type of work is outside the factory authorized repair policy.

How To Determine The Action Of a Fishing Rod
The action of a rod can be described as the strength or lifting power necessary to move a fish when hooked.. The action in each unique rod model is created by considering all of the factors  that will go into the use of the rod. Each of Shimano Rods are created with a mix of materials and are rated independently. This produces rods that have a different feel action even when comparing similar sounding descriptions. An example of this would be Medium Heavy action freshwater rod will feel different than the Medium Heavy action of a saltwater rod.

Understanding The Taper Of A Fishing Rod
The taper of a fishing rod in a general sense describes where the rod will flex during the cast and during the retrieve. The taper, in combination with the materials and components used, determines how a rod performs. A rod with an Extra Fast taper flexes closest to the tip. As the taper descends from Extra Fast to Medium, the flex descends through the rod blank towards the butt section. The design of each taper is custom to a particular fishing application. Shimano takes into consideration such variables as angle preferences, a variety of personal styles, and the presentation and performance of your lure on the delivery and retrieve. These variables can be optimized when the proper taper is combined with the proper lure.
