G. Loomis Classic Salmon & Steelhead BC Rods

These are specialty mooching rods, designed for a single-action reel, so common to those fisheries in the northern regions. It's a style of fishing done from a boat by slowly trolling - motor mooching - or drifting with the wind or tide. You need a rod that is powerful to fight big fish, yet soft enough to allow the salmon to grab your bait, feeling very little resistance. That makes them hang on long enough for you to react and set the hook. Unlike standard mooching-casting rods, these rods have a long foregrip and a short rear grip to allow you to hold the rod ahead of the reel. It's a lot like usilng a powerful fly rod, balancing nicely with the special single-action fly reels used for this technique. The "STR" (steelhead) rods adapt well for float fishing in the estuaries and rivers and are an excellent choice for silver salmon. The "SAR" (salmon) rods are designed for fishing kings and large silvers in tidewater, river mouths or in the open ocean. The long, soft rods provide excellent line control which is important when these critters get carried away near the boat and allow for any mistakes the angler may make during the battle. GL2 makes them durable, yet light to help keep the angler in control and with the reel attached behind the long foregrip, they balance nicely.
