The Fat Rap works great using the “Bump-the-Stump” method. Based on the fact that big bass, and oftentimes smallmouth, will be concealed near the shelter of an ambush point. Hunt out these ambush points (lily pads, logs, pilings, submerged vegetation, docks, boat houses and of course stumps) and cast to them, literally bumping against them on retrieve. The lure’s strong plastic lip should fend off most hangups, but if you pick up a weed, give your rod tip a strong backward sweep.

Another technique that really benefits from the Fat Rap's swimming action is “Cranking.” When over points, rock piles or sloping weed beds, cast to the shallow area of the structure and retrieve down the slope, bumping the bottom.
